SPECIAL ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING MINUTES

The Minnewaska Area Schools Board of Education met in special session on Wednesday, January 4, 2024 in the Minnewaska Area Schools District Board Room. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m. by past Chairperson Barsness. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Members Present: Barsness, T. Reichmann, A. Reichmann, Lagred, Zavadil

Motion by Zavadil, nominated A. Reichmann as Acting Clerk, it was seconded by Lagred. Vote was taken, A. Reichmann I selected as Acting Clerk Until Clerk is elected.

Motion carried.

Motion by T. Reichmann, seconded by Zavadil, to approve the agenda as presented.

Lagred nominated Barsness as Chairperson, it was seconded by Zavadil. Vote was taken, Barsness is elected Chairperson.

Zavadil nominated T. Reichmann as Vice-Chairperson, it was seconded by Lagred. Vote was taken, T. Reichmann is elected Vice-Chairperson.

Lagred nominated A. Reichmann as Clerk, it was seconded by Zavadil. Vote was taken, A. Reichmann is elected Clerk.

A. Reichmann nominated Ogdahl as Treasurer, it was seconded by Zavadil. Vote was taken, Ogdahl is elected Treasurer.

Motion by Barsness, seconded by Lagred, to set the monthly Board Meetings for the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the MAS District Office Board Room for the 2024 calendar year with the exception of those dates that fall on legal holidays and Work Sessions to be held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:15 pm as needed for the 2024 calendar year. With the following meeting date already established on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the MAS District Office Board Room.

Motion by Barsness, seconded by Zavadil, to designate all Pope County banks and the Minnesota Liquid Asset Fund as official depositories for the 2024 calendar year.

Motion by Zavadil, seconded by A. Reichmann, to designate the Pope County Tribune as the official district newspaper for the 2024 calendar year.

Motion by Lagred, seconded by Barsness, to set mileage rate to follow the federal rate at .67¢ for the 2024 calendar year.

Motion by Lagred, seconded by T. Reichmann, to approve the use of machine signed checks for the 2024 calendar year.

Motion by Zavadil, seconded by A. Reichmann, to approve electronic fund transfer by Drew Olsonawski, and/or Charles (Chip) Rankin for the 2024 calendar year.

Board members discussed committee appointments for the 2024 calendar year. Committee assignments will be presented at the next regular school board meeting on January 22, 2024

Motion by Lagred, seconded by Zavadil, to set the following annual officer salaries: Chairperson $500; Clerk $150; Treasurer $150.  Meeting salary was set at $50, with additional $50 for meetings over 4 hours for the 2024 calendar year.

Motion by T. Reichmann, seconded by Barsness, to authorize administrative personnel to contact legal counsel to deal with legal issues as necessary and in a timely manner.

Motion by Barsness, seconded by Lagred, to appoint Superintendent Rankin as Title I LEA Representative.
