Rabbit hunt to be staged next Friday

From the Pope County Tribune, Thursday, January 24, 1924.

The Brainard brothers’ sawmill will be operated at the same place it has been for the past two seasons, south of Sunset Beach Summer Hotel. Anyone having logs may haul them at any time.

Albert Moen [of Rolling Forks] hauled a load of grain to DeGraff for Berger Jorgenson Tuesday.

Amund Amundson was to New Prairie to grind a load of feed last week.

From the Glenwood Herald, Thursday, January 24, 1924.

The Owens Spring Water Co. are operating a still near the N.P. Depot. It is not the kind that the sheriff and the county attorney are looking for. It distills water. There is quite a sale for this product at the present time by this company. They are also sending out a great deal of other water. Dakota purchases a great deal. Morris, Minn., buys a good deal of water from Glenwood.

The Glenwood Fuel and Cartage Co. are at present filling the ice houses in town with ice. They began cutting last week and began hauling the forepart of this week. Yesterday they were filling for the meat markets. The ice is about 20 inches thick and is of fair quality. Mr. Boyer has already finished filling his ice house.

Dr. Elsey of Glenwood was in town [Villard] Wednesday afternoon quarantining the cases of scarlet fever and measles.

From the Starbuck Times, Friday, January 25, 1924.

A big rabbit hunt will be staged next Sunday afternoon when the local nimrods will take down their trusty flintlocks and go after the rabbit stew. The hunt is open to all who wish to take part. If you can’t shoot but can go faster than a cottontail there will be a place for you on one of the teams. The captains have also extended a cordial invitation to the ladies to take part. No crows will be counted this year. Cottontails will count one and jacks three points.

The question of Sunday movies is becoming one of the burning questions of the hour in Starbuck, and it now appears likely that the matter will be submitted to the voters at the spring election, as the council will probably not want to go on record without the expression from the voters. Rev. Johnshoy announced last Sunday in church that the matter would be discussed by the congregation after services next Sunday, and a decision will be made as to what action shall be taken.
