A report on the Jan. 8 Starbuck City Council meeting published in the Pope Co. Tribune & Starbuck Times on January 15, contained some information that needed clarification.  The article stated in paragraph 9, “Contrary to the commission’s recommendation to follow the city ordinances, the Bluhms are not required to consolidate all parcels, and there is no obligation to erect a 6-foot privacy fence along the western border of parcel 27-0580-010.”

According to Mayor Gary Swenson, there is no ordinance that requires that businesses combine all parcels of their property deeded under the same name.  As in this case all parcels included in the BeachSide RV Park are managed by the same corporation.

Swenson also clarified the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission’s mission. “As for the Planning and Zoning Commission, its main focus is to approve city zoning and building plans and make recommendations to the City Council.  They may make recommendations to the City Council, but it is the Council that makes the final decisions, taking all factors into account,” the mayor stated.

“I personally talked to all parties involved in the new and revised Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for BeachSide RV Park and everyone was agreeable and comfortable with the final outcome,” Swenson added. “BeachSide RV Park continues to operate its business in Starbuck.”
