•Voters will decide major party’s Presidential nominee

Super Tuesday has arrived and Minnesota voters, along with voters in 16 other states and one U.S. territory will get the chance to decide who will be on the ballot in the November election when they participate in the Presidential Nomination Primary this Tuesday, March 5.

Registered voters (voters can register on election day) will be able to vote at their polling place on presidential primary day.  The absentee voting started on Jan. 19 this year.

A voter must request the ballot of the party of their choice. If a voter refuses to select a party, they will not be able to vote in the presidential primary.  A voter’s choice of party ballot will be recorded and is private data. However, a list will be provided to the chair of each major political party of voters who selected that party. How a voter voted on the ballot will be secret, however.

Glenwood voters will vote on Presidential Nomination Primary at the Glenwood Chamber of Commerce office, 7 1st Street NW.  Starbuck voters can vote at the Starbuck Community Center.  Both polls open at 7 a.m.  Many of the townships and smaller cities in the county were “mail ballot precincts.”  For more information, contact Pope County Auditor/Treasurer Stephanie Rust, who is the Pope County Election Official.

Super Tuesday earned its nickname because it’s the date most states hold their presidential primaries and caucuses — this year, 16 states and one U.S. territory — will hold elections on March 5.  Besides Minnesota, the states holding presidential primaries include: Alabama, Alaska (GOP, Arkansas, California, Colorado,Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and the U.S. territory of American Samoa.
