Bids for two major Glenwood city projects scheduled for this year came in below engineer estimate.  The favorable bids meant the city awarded contracts for the work at last Wednesday’s regular Glenwood City Commission meeting.

Commissioners accepted the low bid and awarded the contract for this year’s Water Storage Tank Reconditioning project.

The low bid came from LC United Painting in the amount of $373,000.  That bid came in well under the engineer’s estimate of $590,000.  “It was a favorable bid atmosphere for the city,” said Glenwood City Administrator Dave Iverson.

The city received 10 bids for the project with the highest bid coming from TMI Coatings, Inc for $795,000. Most of the bids were in the $400,000 to $500,000.

In another action, the city’s 2024 local streets improvement project low bid was awarded to Ferguson Brothers at $95,226. Also bidding on the work were: Joe Riley Construction, Central Specialties, Inc., Mark Lee Excavating and Mark Sand & Gravel Co.  The commission approved awarding the bid and contract to Ferguson Brothers Excavating, which was low bid and under the engineer’s estimate for the project.

That project includes work on 17th Ave NW, 2nd Street NNE and the alley from 1st Street SW to Highway 29 between 3rd and 4th Ave. SW.

In other action, the commission:

•Approved paying the first half of property taxes in the amount of $45,847.

•approved an agreement with Baker Tilly US, LLP to assist with advisory services for the city.

•Approved a 10-year rental term at Glenwood Municipal airport for Dovair Aviation.

•Approved a resolution approving the transfer of funds from Complete Streets Improvements to the capital improvement fund.

•Approved and acknowledged the “Unfinished Project” report from staff.

•Approved a permit for Glenwood Lakes Area Welcome Center to host Music in the Park events at City park from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. four nights during the summer.  The dates are:

•Approved an outdoor public fireworks display by Evergreen Park Tree Farm in Glenwood starting at 10:30 p.m. on  July 3.  In a related matter, the commission approved Evergreen Park Tree Farm’s request for a permit to conduct a Blond & The Bohunk concert at the grounds at 230 17th Ave. NW from 5 p.m. until 12 a.m. on July 3 with a rainout date for July 5.
