The Minnewaska Area baseball team pounded out 26 hits during a 15-3, 13-3 doubleheader sweep at Sauk Centre last Tuesday night.

The Lakers improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the WCC with the latest wins.  Minnewaska was also set to play at NLS, Friday, but that game was postponed due to rain

This week, Minnewaska Area has its first home games as the Lakers are set to host Montevideo, Tuesday (tomorrow) for a twinbill.  The Lakers are also set to host Melrose Area for a doubleheader, Friday, May 3 and the team has two more home dates set for the following week.

Waska 15-13, SC 3-3

The Lakers scored 28 runs during a 15-3, 13-3 doubleheader sweep at Sauk Centre last Tuesday night.

Minnewaska Area pounded out 15 hits in the first game and added 11 in the nightcap.

In the first game, the Lakers scored eight runs in the second inning to take command of the game and then added seven more runs over the final three innings.

Alex Panitzke improved to 2-0 with the win on the mound with relief help from Jack Majerus, while five Lakers had two hits each to lead the offense.

Noah Jensen went 2-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, a double and triple, while Jack Majerus was 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, two walks and two stolen bases.

Dylan Alexander had a double among his two hits and also had two RBI, while Austin Weber was 2-for-3 with a run and stolen base, and Panitzke was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs, three RBI and also was hit by a pitch.

Adding one hit each for Minnewaska were Levi Johnson, Connor Erickson, Nathan Dell, Austin Ballhagen and Caden Larson.  A total of 12 Lakers had at least one run, hit or RBI.

•  In the second game, Ryland Martin and Jack Majerus were the leaders for the Lakers as Martin earned the victory on the mound with the complete-game win.

He pitched all five innings, giving up four hits, two walks and three unearned runs with five strikeouts.  Majerus meanwhile, went 3-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and double.

The Lakers fell behind 3-1 after one inning, but took the lead for good with eight runs in the third and ended the game with two outs in the bottom-half of the fifth after plating four more runs to institute the 10-run rule.

Dylan Alexander went 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and triple for Waska, giving him five multiple-hit games already this season, while Levi Johnson reached base all four times with a hit, two walks, a hit-by-pitch, two runs and an RBI.

Also coming through with hits for the Lakers were Noah Jensen (double, RBI and two runs scored), Austin Weber (also run scored, two RBI and walk), Alex Panitzke (also one run and RBI), Connor Erickson (also one run) and Riley Dell, who was 1-for-1 with a triple, two runs, two RBI and a walk.
