Treyton Thompson, a native of Glenwood, played in the NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament this winter for the Stetson Hatters. Thompson, who played high school ball at Alexandria High School from 7th-10th grade before moving on to La Lumiere School in LaPorte, IN for his junior and senior seasons, played for the MN Gophers his first two seasons of college ball before transferring to Stetson University, a private college in Central Florida (Deland, FL) for his junior season.
The Hatters went 22-13 this season and won the Atlantic Sun Conference Tourney with a victory over Austin Peay (94-91) in the championship game. The Hatters were matched up against the top seed in the tournament, UConn, and Stetson lost the opener to the Huskies, 91-52. Thompson had four points and four rebounds during the Hatters’ final game this year.
Jalen Blackmon, who had an ASUN-championship game record 43 points during the win over Austin Peay, was held to 14 points during the game against UConn, going 4-of-17 from the floor. The Hatters will try to get back to the NCAA Tourney next year as Thompson is set to begin his senior year of college.
