The Minnewaska Area boys tennis team is still undefeated after winning three more matches last week to stand 12-0 nearing the halfway point in the season.

The Lakers head coach, Tara Reichmann, recently earned her 500th coaching win, Friday, April 12 at home during a triangular.  She is now an unofficial 505-276 after winning two more matches last Saturday, two at a triangular at St. Cloud Tech last Monday and a 6-1 win over MACCRAY, Thursday.

In the results that follow is a recap of two wins over Moorhead (7-0) and East Grand Forks (5-2) at the Horizon triangular at Fargo last Saturday, along with two more victories over Princeton (4-3) and St. Cloud Tech (5-2) during a triangular at SCT last Monday and a 6-1 win at MACCRAY, Thursday.

The Lakers, who are 2-0 in the conference, were also set to host Lac qui Parle/DB last Tuesday, but that match was pushed back to Monday, April 22 (today) due to weather.  Also on tap this week is a match at home against Montevideo set for Tuesday (tomorrow).

“We’ve had an amazing start to the season; I couldn’t have asked for a better start!” said head coach Tara Reichmann.  “We honestly have a young team with only one senior and two juniors in the line up.  Knowing we were young,  I wanted to get a lot of matches early on to help the team get into great tennis shape early in the season and a lot of practice.  

“I am hoping to keep improving and developing our skills as we move towards mid season through tournament time.”

at Horizon triangular

The Lakers improved to 9-0 overall with a pair of wins at an outdoor triangular at Fargo last Saturday.

Minnewaska swept Moorhead in one match (7-0) and also edged East Grand Forks in the other (5-2).

During the shutout of Moorhead, Connor Quelle (7-5, 6-0), Tenzin Dahl (6-0, 6-1), Riley Thorfinnson (2-6, 6-4, 13-11 tiebreaker) and Xavier Johnson (6-0, 6-1) won at first through fourth singles, respectively, and the Lakers also swept doubles.

Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair had the toughest time, winning in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7 tiebreaker, while Marshall Kopp and Landon Schiffler prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at second doubles and Tyler Kohn and Easton Palmer won 6-1, 6-2 at third doubles.

•  Minnewaska also beat a strong East Grand Forks team to stay unbeaten.  All five of the Lakers’ wins were in straight sets.

Quelle earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles, Dahl blanked his opponent at second singles and Thorfinnson won 6-3, 6-3 at third singles for three quick points for Minnewaska.

Bleick and LeClair earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory at first doubles for the Lakers’ fourth point and Minnewaska Area also won at second doubles where Kopp and Schiffler won for the ninth-straight time to open up the season (7-5, 6-4).

at SC Tech triangular

The Lakers improved to 11-0 for the season with a pair of close wins at a triangular at St. Cloud Tech last Monday.  Minnewaska edged Princeton in one contest, 4-3, and also beat the host St. Cloud Tech team, 5-2.

The Lakers earned just one win in singles, but the three doubles’ teams also came through with wins for four points.  Tenzin Dahl won 6-1, 6-0 at second singles, but SCT won the other three singles’ matches in straight sets.

In doubles, Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair stayed perfect as a team this spring with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at first doubles, while Landon Schiffler and Marshall Kopp also stayed perfect this season with a 6-1, 6-2 win at second doubles and Tyler Kohn and Xavier Johnson prevailed 6-1, 6-1 at third doubles.

•  During the win over Princeton, the Lakers swept singles and also picked up a win by Carson Beyer and Xavier Johnson at third doubles, 6-2, 6-4.

Winning in singles were Connor Quelle at first singles (3-6, 6-3, 10-2 tiebreaker), Tenzin Dahl at second (6-2, 6-0), Drew Bleick at third (6-2, 6-2) and Carter LeClair at fourth singles (6-2, 6-2).

Waska 6, MACCRAY 1

The Lakers improved to 12-0 overall with a 6-1 rout at MACCRAY, Thursday.  The Lakers earned three wins in doubles, including a 6-0, 6-0 shutout by Drew Bleick and Carter LeClair at first doubles, along with forfeit wins by Marshall Kopp and Landon Schiffler at second doubles, and by Xavier Johnson and Tyler Kohn at third doubles.

Connor Quelle led a strong effort in singles, winning 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, while Tenzin Dahl stayed perfect for the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win at second singles and Riley Thorfinnson earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory at third doubles.
