Pat and Dave Rasmussen had an unusual visitor to their home last week. A fully grown black bear lumbered into their back yard in broad daylight to feast on some bird seed.  Pat and Dave Rasmussen live north of Highway 28 near Minnewaska House on Game Road.  Their back yard borders a large, wooded area.  Pat captured video of the bear on her phone and provided this photo.  The black bear can be seen on hind legs knocking down a bird feeder and eating the fallen seeds. The bear visited the yard a few times until Pat removed the bird feeders, which was the attraction to the yard for the bear. There aren’t many black bears sighted in this area of the state, although there have been sightings of black bears in the Glenwood area in year’s past and bears have been photographed on trail cameras near the city of Glenwood.  A DNR game warden told Pat the bear was probably “just passing through the area” and would stop coming if she removed the food source. So far, that has worked, she said.
