The Lakers had several members of the track and field team compete at an elite meet at Fargo, Saturday, April 20.  According to head coach Zach Traphagen, the meet allowed the athletes a chance to see how they stack up against state-caliber competition.

“It was a great experience for these kids to get the chance to compete at a highly competitive meet early in the season on a college campus,” coach Traphagen said.  “It had a State Track Meet type feel to it with all the great athletes competing. It wasn’t the greatest of weather conditions with the 45 degree temps and 15-20 mph winds which hindered some of the times today, but it was another opportunity for these kids to compete against some of the best.”

Among the competitors at the meet was the boys 3200 meter relay team of Carter Dinsmore, Zach Palmer, Jayce Kovarik and Maeson Tank, the boys 800 meter relay of Carter Meyer, Kaiden Harvey, Owen Meulebroeck and Tank, Lauryn Ankeny in the 300 hurdles and Owen Meulebroeck in the 300 hurdles.

Meulebroeck had the top finish for the Lakers, placing fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 42.18, while Ankeny earned eighth in the girls 300 hurdles with a time of 50.67.  The 800 meter relay team added a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:35.82, while the 3200 meter relay team earned eighth with a time of 8:53.13.

“We had to scratch Maeson from the 400 meter dash due to muscle tightness; more as a preventative measure,” coach Traphagen said.  “All in all though, we felt it was a very good day for the kids who competed and they really enjoyed getting the opportunity to race on a Division 1 track.”
