Mogard homers during doubleheader loss to Tigers

The Minnewaska Area softball team fell four times last week, including two close losses at West Central Area, Thursday night. The Lakers fell to 3-13 overall and 2-10 in the conference after the latest defeats.
This week, the Lakers are set to play a doubleheader at Benson, Tuesday (tomorrow) before hosting Ottertail Central, Thursday, and Osakis, Friday for a pair of single games.
• This year’s Minnewaska Area softball roster includes Xi Li, Amanda Lohre, Trelana Johnson, Melanie Lara, Emara Sanow, Ally Mogard, Mataya Mix, Brooklyn Armstrong, Lauren Stryhn, Emma Poegel, Ella Roering, Carly Jergenson, Avery lewison, Eliana Marthaler, Haillie Schulz and Jenna Drewes.
Morris 15-18, Waska 1-0
The Lakers were swept in a doubleheader at home by Morris Area-CA, Thursday night, 13-1, 18-0.
The only run scored by the Lakers during the games was a solo homer by Ally Mogard in the first inning of the first game.
Other than that, the Lakers had just four hits all night.
Brianna Marty and Lauren Hottovy had six hits each for the Tigers, who currently lead the WCC, and Morris Area’s two pitchers, Haley Kill and Nora Boyle, both pitched complete games with a combined 14 strikeouts and only one walk.
Besides Mogard’s homerun, Emma Poegel also had a double in the first game as Morris scored six runs in the fifth to institute the 10-run rule.
In game two, Mogard and Poegel both had singles, while Eliana Marthaler also reached base when hit-by-a-pitch.
Morris Area plated 10 runs in the second inning and six more in the third to end the game after 3 1/2 innings due to the 15-run rule.
Mataya Mix took the loss in the first game, while Ella Roering was credited with the loss in the second game.
WCA 13-7, Waska 6-6
The Lakers were swept in a twinbill at West Central Area, Thursday night, losing the first game by seven runs (13-6) and the second game on a walkoff hit in the eighth inning (7-6).
The Lakers led in game one 6-3 through four innings before the Knights rallied for the victory.
Haillie Schulz led the Laker offense, going 3-for-3 with a homerun, walk and three RBI, while Ella Roering was 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases.
Mataya Mix took the loss. She was hurt by six unearned runs in the sixth inning.
Adding one hit each were Carly Jergenson, Emma Poegel and Jenna Drewes.
• The Lakers also led in game two, leading 3-2 after three innings and 6-2 after 4 1/2.
WCA scored four in the fifth to tie up the game and then got the gamewinner with one out in the bottom-half of the eighth to earn the sweep.
Roering went 2-for-4 to again lead the offense, while Ally Mogard, Poegel, Eliana Marthaler and Avery Lewison also had hits for Minnewaska Area.
Norah VanZee pitched a great second game for the Lakers. She pitched all 7 1/3 innings, giving up 10 hits, five earned runs and four walks with three strikeouts.
The Lakers have scored 69 runs through the first 16 games for an average of about 4.4 runs per game.
