The Starbuck Beautification Committee will be hosting their second Mystery Dinner Theater, “Murder on Lake Minnewaska!” on this Friday, May 10, at the Starbuck Community Center. The original play is written and directed by Paul Warshauer. Mr. Warshauer is known all over the United States, with his company Murders4Fun. He is originally from Chicago, Ill., but resides in Sleepy Eye.
The story line is: trouble has come to Starbuck. A strange couple, Big Mama and Danny Dingler (Dan Jahn and Mary Baukol), who ran tugboats in North Dakota have come to Starbuck with “dirty money” (literally a suitcase covered with filth) with the hopes of persuading the locals that a casino riverboat can be floated on Lake Minnewaska. Mayor Flipflappah (Tom Beuckens) cannot make a decision, as its’s an election year. His Chief of Staff Piddley (Shari Opdahl) sees tons of money in this deal but must persuade the city attorney, Azell (Bryan Taffe), who has a checkered past to go along with the deal. A local architect, Wellington (Drew Opdahl), needs a big project as he is deep in debt. Local entertainer, Eldon (Derek Koch), is tired of working the same gig as Elvis in a local bar and wants to be the headliner on the new casino boat. His friend, Chamber lady Suzie (Katy Lepa), is willing to help but for a price and the innocent chamber intern, Esther (Leah Hagen), is totally confused. One thing is certain: Someone is murdered and it is up to the audience to solve the “WhoDunit!”
Limited tickets are available at Peddler Dan’s, Samuelson Drug and There’s No Place Like Home.
Social hour begins at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. A large charcuterie table, cash bar and Old Firehall Brewing Co., dinner served by Starbuck VFW, coffee and dessert bar, silent auction and beautiful hanging outdoor baskets will be available.
