Register for the GRHS 5K Scrub Run on Saturday, June 8

The GRHS 5K Scrub Run/Walk is a family event that kicks off summer vacation. Whether you run, walk, push your child in a stroller, or pull them in a wagon, everyone is welcome to participate in the 10th annual event, even your family dog. The fun run starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, beginning and ending at Glenwood City Park. The route follows the shoreline of beautiful Lake Minnewaska. Register before Memorial Day (May 27) to ensure you get a shirt. Choose a T-shirt or a women’s tank top.

In 2015, the first Scrub Run was inspired by Dr. Mark Johnson. He had recently passed away from a battle with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Johnson was a beloved doctor at GRHS and an overall inspiring person. Community members would often see Dr. Johnson and his wife, Mary, walking their dog, Kobi, which is one reason dogs are welcome at the Scrub Run. We also know that having a dog helps motivate people to get up, get out and move. The race is timed, but not officially, and the top male and female finishers receive a medal. Proceeds of the 10th Annual Scrub Run will go to GRHS Hospice Programs to help enhance care for hospice & palliative care patients. Many families in our area benefit from the hospice program. “The service they provide is amazing,” said Mary Johnson.
