The Starbuck Stars amateur baseball team won a pair of games last week to improve to 4-1 overall.  The Stars topped Clinton in a non-league game, Saturday, 11-9, and also won at Norway Lake-Sunburg, Sunday, in a County Line League game, 7-2.

This week, the Stars are set to play at Morris, Wednesday,  May 22 before getting ready for the Stearns County Classic, June 1-2, where the Stars are set to play three games against the Cold Spring Rockies, Foley and Cold Spring Springers.

Stars 11, Clinton 9

The  Stars had 11 different players with at least one hit each on the way to an 11-9 victory at Clinton, Saturday afternoon.

The Stars led 9-2 after 3 1/2 innings before the Cards slowly but surely cut into the lead.  Michael Gruber pitched three innings of relief to earn the victory.

Darion Alexander had the big stick for the Stars, going 3-for-6 at the plate with a run, RBI and triple.

Jackson Hendrickson and Dylan Alexander added two hits each, while PJ Johnson, Matt Gruber, Mitch Gruber, Austin Ver Steeg, Drew Olsonawski, Aaron Ver Steeg, Connor Erickson and Marc Gruber also had hits for the Stars.

Overall, the Stars outhit the home team, 15-9.

Stars 7, NL-Sunburg 2

Jackson Hendrickson and Austin Ver Steeg had homeruns to lead the Stars to a 7-2 victory at Norway Lake-Sunburg, Sunday afternoon.

The Stars improved to 4-1 overall after rallying from an early 2-0 deficit.

Austin Ver Steeg and Darion Alexander combined for the victory, giving up just four hits and two walks, while Alexander and Hendrickson paced the offense.

Alexander went 3-for-5 to lead the 11-hit offensive attack for the Lakers, while Hendrickson was 2-for-4 with a run, three RBI, a walk, homerun and double, Matt Gruber was 2-for-5 with a run and RBI, and Austin Ver Steeg added a solo homerun and walk.

The Stars put one run across in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take the lead for good.

Ver Steeg earned the pitching victory with scoreless relief help from Alexander.  Adding one hit each for the Stars were PJ Johnson, Luke Leveasseur and Drew Olsonawski.
