Speaking of Sports

Teagan Stark, a senior at Minnewaska Area High School, has had a lot of success in her high school years, including winning two recent awards for her all-around success in athletics, arts and academics.

Stark was the Triple AAA nominee this year from Minnewaska Area High School along with fellow senior Jayce Kovarik.  Well, Teagan went on to not only earn the sub-section and section Triple AAA honors, but she was selected as the overall Class A girls Triple AAA awardwinner during the State Boys Basketball Tourney.  Believe me, that is quite an accomplishment when you consider all the student-athletes that were also up for the award.

Teagan has been a steady performer for the Lakers in cross-country and track and field for many years, but she has missed this spring  season due to an injury.  Well, you can add another award for her as Teagan was recently named the Female Athlete of the Year during the 13th annual KMGK Sports Banquet, May 1, according to KMGK sports director Brady Erdman.  Pictures from the banquet are featured on page 2B of this week’s sports section.

She was selected for the KMGK award from among student-athletes from six area schools — KMS, Benson, Hancock, West Central Area, BBE and Minnewaska Area.

Other seniors who were honored during the banquet from MAHS were Avery Fier, Brooklyn Meyer, Maeson Tank, Jayce Kovarik and Myles Reichmann.

Yes, I’ve always known there have been so many great athletes that have graduated from Minnewaska Area High School, but it’s also nice to have others recognize the success of the Laker student-athletes.

Way to go Teagan!
