Due to the threat of thunder and lightning storms last weekend, the Minnewaska Laker trap team postponed its week #2 competition from last Sunday to last Monday, April 29. It proved to be a wise move as the weather was much tamer and the winds were much less blustery than Sunday, according to coach Jennie Stone.
With sunny skies and a slight wind, the team had a great showing, bumping up the team average by almost two full targets. “To go from a team average of 17 to 18.96 in one week is exciting!” stated coach Jennie Stone. “The newer kids are starting to figure things out and the veterans are hitting stride so hopefully, it is enough to boost us up in the standings.”
Both August and Mason Reichmann broke 23’s on the first box and crushed 25’s on box 2 giving them both totals of 48 and high-gun honors for the week. “The competition between these brothers is pretty intense, and they both wanted to know who was top on the day based on a tie breaker of reverse run,” coach Stone said. “By two targets on a reverse run, Mason would win that title.”
Most improved shooter this week was Carter Katzenmeyer with an increase of 15 targets over last week. “Carter has been struggling so he came out to shoot some extra practice. We were able to utilize a gps technology tool that helped him to visualize what was happening with his shot versus the target. It was very beneficial for him,” Stone said.
The team has recently acquired one of the Garmin units thanks to a very generous donor. “This technology will help anyone who wants to put in the extra effort and we are so excited to have it available,” Stone said.
There were also several personal bests this week to report. Andren Olness shot a personal best of 19, and Matthew Longtin and Landon Weber also smashed 22 for their personal bests.
The trap team will shoot week #3 competition scores, Sunday, May 4.
The team is also prepping for the state conference championships in Alex, Wednesday, June 12. “We love it when we get lots of people to come and watch these guys and gals,” Stone said. “It is such a fun day and we invite everyone to come!”
