After three weeks of competition, the Lakers are still in third place in Class 3 Conference 3A. “We have a few teams right on our tails, so we really need to buckle down to stay in third place,” said head coach Jennie Stone.

The Laker team average jumped up to over 20 for the team, while John Jenson was top gun with a 49 and both Levi Schultz and Dylan VanZee smashed 48’s to tie for second.

Sam Jones broke his very first 25 straight and was the most improved shooter, increasing his weekly score by 20 targets.  “Sam was struggling and everything was looking right but he just wasn’t breaking the targets,” said coach Stone.  “We used our Garmin shot tracker on a round and found his gun was shooting low and left.  Coach John made some adjustments to his gun, and a few rounds later he popped three scores in the 20’s with one being a 25 straight.  Needless to say there was some excitement at the Jones’ house that day!”

Kendra Schultz and Madeline Reents also crushed 23’s for their personal bests.  “Madeline started out very promising but hit a lull.  It was very frustrating for her and we decided to pull out the club gun, an SKB that was donated to the team by Doug Magnus.  She picked it up and commented how much better the gun felt and she hasn’t really looked back.  Her scores have been going up and up.

“Both the Garmin and the club gun were donations that have truly impacted our team in such a great way.  We truly have the best supporters.”

Sunday, May 12 was Mother’s Day and is the annual tradition, each trap Mom was presented with a rose.  “The Mom’s not only share every Sunday with us, but their special day and we want them to know how much that means to us.”

The team’s last competition is Monday, May 20.  After that, the team will be preparing for the State Tourney.  The Lakers shoot on Wednesday June 12 in Alexandria.  That day is a team qualifier for the Championships that are held in Prior Lake.  “We have made it to Prior Lake three times and to go again this year would be a great wrap to the year for this team,” coach Stone said.
