Minnewaska Trap team places 24th at State Championships

• Reichmann and Schultz tie for 11th in state individuals, Van Zee is 19th
The Minnewaska Area Trap team competed at the State Shoot, Friday at Prior Lake. The Lakers, who placed 28th during the Class Championships one week earlier to earn a spot in the 40-team State Shoot, had a state sendoff Thursday morning before heading out of Glenwood toward Prior Lake.
At the State Shoot, the Lakers had a five-person team score of 461 out of 500 targets to place 24th.
Prior Lake earned first out of the 39 teams that competed at the State Shoot with a 480 total (99, 96, 96, 95 and 94). There were three perfect 100s during the team tournament.
Minnewaska Area had individual scores of 97, 96, 92, 90 and 86. The Lakers finished only 19 targets away from first place.
Shooting for the Lakers at the State Shoot were August Reichmann, Levi Schultz, Dylan Van Zee, Mason Reichmann and John Jenson with alternates Jonathan Hagen and Brody Hoffert.
Earning second at the State Shoot was Lakeville South (476) followed in the top 10 by Stewartville (476), Proctor (475), Bemidji (475), Alexandria (474), Stillwater (474), Thief River Falls (473), St. Michael-Albertville (472) and Lesueur-Henderson (471).
In the individual State Shoot, Levi Schultz and Mason Reichmann both had 98×100 to tie for 11th place out of 90 shooters while Dylan VanZee tied for 19th with a score of 97×100.
Yes, that’s right, the Laker shooters successfully broke 293 out of 300 targets during the individual portion of the State Shoot.
During the individual State Shoot, there were two 100s and six others who had 99×100.
Earning the state title were Ross Huper of Alden-Conger and Lance Klersy, of Monticello, who both had perfect scores of 100.
Schultz, Reichmann and VanZee earned the place in the individual State Shoot by placing in the top 90 out of 11,266 shooters.
• During the Class Championships at Alexandria, VanZee had placed seventh out of 410 varsity shooters with a score of 97×100. In the conference, Levi Schultz finished second overall out of 221 shooters and Mason Reichmann was third.
This is the fourth time Minnewaska has been represented in the top 100 since the program started 10 years ago and this is also the fourth time the team has made it to the State Championships.

Coaching the Lakers this year were Jennie Stone, John Stone, Don Runquist, Jason Van Zee, Bob Jacobs and Mark Becker.
