Ver Steeg, Lavasseur lead Stars to 3-0 victory

The Starbuck Stars improved to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the County Line League with a 3-0 victory over Atwater, Sunday afternoon at home.
The Stars had four of their five hits during a three-run third inning and the three runs held up for the win as Austin Ver Steeg and Nick Lavasseur combined for the shutout victory.
The Stars are set to play again at Raymond, Wednesday, June 12 before hosting Regal for a game, Friday night, and playing at Paynesville, Sunday, June 16.
Ver Steeg went 2-for-3 with an RBI-double to lead the offense and also pitched the first four innings, scattering two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Nick Lavasseur pitched the final five innings and was credited with the win. He gave up just one walk while striking out another seven Chuckers.
Darion Alexander had an RBI-double and scored a run for the Stars, while Mitch Gruber also had an RBI-double and scored and Matt Gruber had a double, walk and scored a run.
Three of the Stars’ five hits were doubles.
