Smoke was pouring from the Starbuck Locker building and flames were shooting from the east side roof when Starbuck Firefighters arrived on the scene minutes after the call was made at about 12:45 p.m.  Saturday during a busy Heritage Days weekend.

Starbuck Fire Chief Doug Noyes said nobody was in the building at the time of the fire and firefighters fought the fire for hours both inside and outside the building

The Starbuck Fire Department was soon joined by fire departments from Cyrus, Glenwood, Lowry villard and Hancock.   The Glalcial Ridge Ambulance was also on the scene.

“We just really needed the manpower to switch out firefighters working both the interior and exterior of the building,” Noyes explained.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and is still under investigation, Noyes said.

Most of the damage the east side of the building had to come down.  Firefighters were on the scene all afternoon and into the early evening, Noyes said.
