Glenwood-Lowry sweeps BBE to finish regular-season with 14-4 record

The Glenwood-Lowry Legion baseball team closed out the regular-season with three more wins last week. The Legion team won at Osakis last Monday, 9-2, before sweeping a home doubleheader with BBE, Thursday, 10-0 and 7-5.
The Lakers finished 14-4 during the regular season, including a current six-game winning streak.
Next up is the pod playoffs, set for Monday, July 15, and the Lakers earned a first-round game at home against Osakis. The pod playoffs continue Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The top team from the pod playoffs moves on to the Substate playoffs, set for July 23, 25, 27 and 28.
The State Legion Tourney is set for Aug. 2-4 at Bird Island.
• The WC Sub-State includes Ashby, Benson-Hancock, Brooten, Cottonwood, Granite Falls, KMS, Sacred Heart, Madison, Glenwood-Lowry, Montevideo, Morris, Parkers Prairie, Sauk Centre, Wheaton, Breckenridge, Prinsburg and Bird Island.
• The roster list for this year’s G-L Legion team, coached by Joe Alexander and Jeff Panitzke, includes Austin Ballhagen, Marc Gruber, Connor Frey, Riley Dell, Zach Gugisberg, PJ Johnson, Jack Majerus, Levi Johnson, Connor Erickson, Alex Panitzke, Ryland Martin, Dylan Alexander, Aron Majerus, Nathan Dell, Ethan Jacobs, Noah Jensen, Evan Friese and Caden Larson.
Glen-Low 9, Osakis 2
The Lakers improved to 12-4 overall with a 9-2 win at Osakis last Monday night.
Glenwood-Lowry trailed 2-0 after three innings, but it took the lead for good with a four-run third inning. The Lakers added two more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh for the final score.
Austin Ballhagen won his fourth game on the mound for Glenwood-Lowry. Ballhagen pitched six innings, giving up five hits, two runs and four walks with five strikeouts.
Evan Friese pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief.
Offensively, the Lakers had 10 hits, six walks, three hit-by-pitch and three Osakis errors.
Levi Johnson continued his great play this summer by going 2-for-4 with a run, two RBI and two stolen bases, while Jack Majerus was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base.
Coming through with one hit each were Dylan Alexander, Noah Jensen, Connor Erickson, Ballhagen, Nathan Dell and Ryland Martin while Aron Majerus and Caden Larson also scored runs and Alex Panitzke was 0-for-2 with a run, two walks, stolen base and a hit-by-a-pitch.
Glen-Lowry 10-7, BBE 0-5
The Glenwood-Lowry Legion baseball team swept a home doubleheader from BBE, Thursday, 10-0 and 7-5.
In the first game, the Lakers ended things early due to the ten-run rule.
Noah Jensen went 3-for-4 with three runs and a double to lead the offense while Dylan Alexander was 2-for-4 with three RBI and Jack Majerus was 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and stolen base.
Earning the victory on the mound was Ryland Martin, who allowed one hit and two walks over four innings while striking out six. Nathan Dell pitched the final two innings, giving up just one hit and one walk.
Adding one hit each for the Lakers, who scored three in the first, two in the second, four in the fifth and one with no outs in the sixth, were Connor Erickson, Connor Frey, Levi Johnson, Riley Dell and Austin Ballhagen.
• In the second game, the Lakers outhit the visitors, 6-4, but Glenwood-Lowry also took advantage of three walks, two hit-by-pitch and one error.
Levi Johnson had the big stick for the Lakers, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run scored.
Jack Majerus, Noah Jensen, PJ Johnson and Zach Gugisberg also had hits for Glenwood-Lowry, which led 7-0 through 4 1/2 innings before BBE made things interesting with five runs in the fifth.
Alex Panitzke earned the victory, giving up one hit and two walks over the first three innings with six strikeouts.
Dylan Alexander came in to pitch the next two innings, but ran into problems before PJ Johnson came in to get the final out with the bases loaded in the bottom-half of the seventh.
