Speaking of Sports

Thanks again to Matt Pederson we have some information about another record with Minnewaska Area sports.

Maeson Tank qualified to the state meet nine times during his career, twice in cross-country and seven times in track and field.

That is the most individual state appearances for a MAHS male athlete, breaking the old record set by Tyson Meyer (2021 graduate) who had six.

For females, Rachel Kuhn (2000 grad) has the record with 12 state appearances, but Matt says there’s a great chance that there will be a new leader in the next couple of years.

Among the girls with 11 state appearances are Kristie Johnsrud (2001 grad), McKenzie Luetmer (2023), Lauryn Ankeny (Class of 2026) and Olivia Danielson (Class of 2026).

Another record that could be broken over the next few years is the “most individual top-4 state tournament finishes.”

Makena Thoen (Class of 2022) currently owns the record with four, all coming on relays, while seven others are tied for second with three.  For this record, it does not include team results or podium results from True-Team State Track, but it does include relays.

Among the individuals in second place are Allie Ostrander (2010) and Sarah Roering (2010), who also won multiple team titles in golf which are not included.

The others with three top-4 finishes at state are Jacob Bryce (2004), Ellie Danielson (2019), Kristen Glover (2021), McKenzie Luetmer (2023) and Tyson Meyer (2021).
