Employment Center is open and job fair will be held July 24

The Minnesota State Fair is currently hiring for fair-time positions at its Employment Center as well as hosting a Job Fair on Wednesday, July 24. Throughout the summer, the State Fair hires approximately 3,000 employees to work in its various departments during the 12-day Great Minnesota Get-Together. State Fair job benefits include free fair admission, valuable work experience, making great friends and lifelong connections and being a part of Minnesota’s most well-known celebration. There are also opportunities for fundraising and volunteering. The 2024 State Fair runs Thursday, Aug. 22 through Labor Day, Sept. 2.

Employment Center

Applicants interested in fair-time employment are invited to visit the Employment Center between now and the fair. The State Fair is hiring employees to work in fair-time departments as ticket sellers, ticket takers, parking and park-and-ride attendants, rides and games ticket takers, barn attendants, custodians and more. Jobs are open to anyone age 16 or older, and most jobs do not require prior experience. Depending on the position, shifts range from six to 12 hours per day for the 12 days of the fair. While most food and merchandise vendors hire their own employees, select vendor jobs are available at the Employment Center throughout the summer as well.

Job seekers are encouraged to register online prior to coming to the Employment Center to accelerate the hiring process. The online registration form can be found at mnstatefair.org/get-involved/employment/. The Employment Center is located across the street from the fairgrounds at 1640 Como Ave. Hours vary and can be found on the website. Free parking is available. It is accessible by Metro Transit bus route 3 and the A Line. Visit metrotransit.org for details on utilizing public transportation to the fairgrounds.

Job Fair

Interested applicants can also attend the sixth annual Job Fair on Wednesday, July 24, between 4-7 p.m. at the North End Event Center on the fairgrounds. The applicant line will begin forming at 3 p.m. outside the North End Event Center, and anyone in line by 6:45 p.m. will be able to participate. Applicants will meet with a State Fair representative and, if their interests, availability and experience match an open position, they will be interviewed on the spot. Resumes are not needed. Applicants offered a State Fair position will be asked to complete a background check. Like the Employment Center, job seekers are encouraged to register online before coming to the fairgrounds to accelerate the process. The online registration form can be found at mnstatefair.org/get-involved/employment/.

Those attending the Job Fair can enter the fairgrounds through the Hoyt Avenue Gate (#3) off Snelling Avenue, the Main Gate (#5) off Snelling Avenue or the gate off Como Avenue (#7). Metro Transit bus routes 3, 61 and the A Line serve the fairgrounds. Visit metrotransit.org for details on utilizing public transportation to the fairgrounds.

For those who cannot or do not register online before coming to the Job Fair or visiting the Employment Center, registration can be completed on-site. The Minnesota State Fair is an equal opportunity employer. Any applicant who needs assistance with completing the application process should contact the employment department at employment@mnstatefair.org or 651-288-4475.

Fundraising Opportunities

In addition to employment positions, the State Fair offers fundraising opportunities for groups of 10 or more – teams, community organizations, schools, churches, clubs – to team-build while raising funds. Companies looking to earn money to donate to a favorite nonprofit are also welcome. Opportunities available include working on the fairgrounds providing clean-up services in the barns or around the fairgrounds. Opportunities in parking and park & ride lots are also available. No prior work experience is needed as the fair provides training, equipment and supplies to do the work. Various opportunities are available including shifts at the following fair exhibits: Alphabet Forest, The Common Table, EquiMania!™, Kemps Little Farm Hands and Math On-A-Stick.
