Advertising brings in the tourists
From the Pope County Tribune, Thursday, July 3, 1924
It is often asked here in Pope County: “What kind of a man is Floyd B. Olson? Is he a real progressive?” We can best answer this question by publishing his statement, which he gave at the time he filed for governor on the Farmer-Labor ticket. His statement is as follows: “In compliance with the request of the Hennepin County central committee of the Farmer-Labor Federation and representative Farmer-Labor leaders in St. Paul and other parts of Minnesota, I have filed as a candidate for governor on the Farmer-Labor ticket.”
Through the Ten Thousand Lakes association, of which our city is a member, Glenwood received a two weeks’ advertising through one of the best display windows in the Twin Cities, at the Ryan hotel. The miniature of Glenwood which was displayed in the Hershman department store window some time ago was used to advertise Glenwood. This is one of the many ways that the Ten Thousand Lakes association has in advertising the cities that are members of the association. Through such advertising as this and the local advertising that has been done here, thousands of tourists are coming to Glenwood every summer, leaving money behind here that would not come if we did not do the advertising that we do.
Mr. and Mrs. John R. Serrin entertained a host of friends at their home Tuesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Pierce Serrin, who were married last week. After a delicious lunch was served the Messrs. John Ostrum, “Cornie” Wollan, M. E. Wollan and Luverne Mc Laury sang. Miss Elsie Gandrud rendered several selections on the piano.

Last Sunday about two hundred friends and relatives gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Simonson in Gilchrist to help them celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. The guests proceeded to he Simonson home immediately after the services at the Terrace church. Dinner was first served, after which Rev. A.H. Belgum spoke, explaining the purpose of the gathering and on behalf of the assembled guests presented to Mr. and Mrs. Simonson a substantial purse of silver besides a number of pieces of beautiful silverware, as a slight token of the love and esteem in which they are held by their neighbors and friends.
Knud Knutson Aaberg, pioneer resident of Camp Lake township, died at his home there on Monday of this week, the end resulting from a malignant tumor which had grown on his neck. He was 89 years of age at his death, and the past 50 years of his life has been spent on his Camp Lake farm.

The kid baseball team was over to Morris last Sunday and cleaned up the kid congregation there to the tune of six to nine. This makes seven games they have played, and so far they have lost only one game. They will play Glenwood on the Fourth.
