Women from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Potpourri Glenwood and GFWC Starbuck clubs attended a weekend convention of Minnesota GFWC in Walker on May 3-5.

Three members of GFWC Starbuck club, Minette Johnson, Marlene Hippe and Mona Gregersen,  presented at the LEADS class on Friday which was a time for members to gain information in many aspects of Federation work and ways to energize and improve their Federated clubs.

There was also a day of learning as they had speakers on Alzheimer and Dementia. They heard from Jinny Benson who talked about “Wise Girls”, a book about the women that ultimately started the CIA. Jinny is a niece of one of these women which made it even more interesting and personal.

Recognition is given to clubs that have done exceptionally great activities in the past year. Our GFWC Potpourri Glenwood received recognition for Women’s History and Research Projects by sponsoring an event open to the community to hear from the author of “Break Point” and the young woman that started the movement that brought in Title IX which contributed to the development of women’s sports

GFWC is a women’s organization with members who have a strong community focus, empowered women volunteering, doing community improvement projects and assisting in various ways in their communities.
