A small electrical fire that emitted smoke occurred last Thursday, July 11  in an isolated part of Glenwood Retirement Village (GRV)Care Center, a senior living community in Glenwood, Minnesota. 

 Thanks to the swift and professional response from emergency responders, the situation was quickly contained, according to information provided just after incident.

All were safely evacuated to Glenwood Elementary School. 

 “Our primary concern was the safe evacuation of the residents and staff,” said Jordyn Brinkman, Director of Nursing at Glenwood Retirement Village. “We are proud to say that the emergency evacuation plan was executed effectively.”

 The established emergency evacuation plan was efficiently executed by the Glenwood Retirement Village staff and emergency personnel. Medical attention was available to residents and staff by emergency and healthcare personnel to ensure their safety and well-being, it was stated.

 Damage to the building was minimal and residents were expected to return to the building during the afternoon on Thursday. Glenwood Retirement Village is closely monitored the situation.

The GRV community extended heartfelt gratitude to the emergency responders and healthcare personnel for their prompt and professional response. Additionally, thanks were given to Glenwood Elementary School for providing a safe shelter for the residents and staff. 

Glenwood Retirement Village is a locally managed, Christian-based, non-profit organization. For over 50 years they have served the community’s aging adults with residential care services, including independent living, assisted living, and skilled care.

The Glenwood Fire Department was helped at the scene by the Starbuck Fire Department.  Emergency personnel from Glenwood, Brooten, Alexandria and other surrounding cities were also at the scene.
