Starbuck Jr. Legion baseball team sweeps Benson

The Starbuck Jr. Legion, coached by Chris Lence and Andy Goracke, is 6-5 overall after sweeping a doubleheader at Benson, Friday, June 28.
The team did not have any games scheduled last week due to the Fourth of July. The next action scheduled is Tuesday, July 9 at ACGC followed by a doubleheader with Morris, Tuesday, July 16.
Starbuck was 10-7 overall last year, including a 9-3 mark in league play. This year, the team started out with a sweep of Kerkhoven before going 2-3 at a tournament at Minnetonka and losing a doubleheader at home to Upsala, June 25.
The next home game(s) scheduled for the team is a doubleheader with Morris set for Tuesday, July 16. The team also has to reschedule games with Holdingford and Spicer that were postponed due to weather earlier this summer.
Star 6-11, Benson 3-1
The Starbuck Jr. Legion swept a doubleheader at Benson, Tuesday, July 9, winning a close first game, 6-3, before winning by a rout in the nightcap, 11-1.
Starbuck had just three hits in the first game, but took advantage of seven walks, two hit-by-pitch and eight Benson errors to score six runs.
Miles Wildman had two of his team’s three hits, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, walk and stolen base, while Tyson Metz also had a hit, going 1-for-4 with a run and four stolen bases as Starbuck had nine stolen bases the first game and 10 more the second.
Luke Danielson earned the victory on the mound with relief help from Callum Disrud-Bailey. Danielson pitched the first 5 1/3 innings, giving up two hits, three runs (two earned) and three walks with six strikeouts.
Marc Gruber reached based three times for Starbuck, going 0-for-1 with two runs, an RBI, three walks and two stolen bases, while Oliver VanderHagen was 0-for-1 with a run and three walks.
• In the second game, Callum Disrud-Bailey spun a two-hit complete game to earn the victory. He also walked just three while striking out seven.
Offensively, Tyson Metz was 3-for-3 with a run, three RBI, a double and two stolen bases while five other teammates had one hit each.
Miles Wildman was 1-for-3 with two runs, a walk, double and two stolen bases, while Marc Gruber was 1-for-2 with two RBI and hit-by-pitch, Riley Dell was 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and stolen base, Connor Erickson was 1-for-2 with three runs, an RBI, walk, double and two stolen bases, and Gavin Flaten was 1-for-2 with a run and walk.
In addition, Luke Danielson was 0-for-0 with two runs, three walks and two stolen bases and Cale Johnsrud also scored for Starbuck, which ended the game early due to the 10-run rule.
