•  Minnewaska Area goes 3-1 at Lakeview and tops Morris and BOLD to start out 7-2

The Minnewaska Area volleyball team is on fire!  The Lakers improved to  7-2 overall and 4-1 in the WCC with a 5-1 record over the last week of action.

The Lakers went 3-1 at the Lakeview Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 7, and also swept a pair of WCC matches against Morris Area last Tuesday and BOLD, Thursday.

Minnewaska Area has two more matches scheduled this week, including a match at home against Benson, Tuesday (tomorrow) and a match at West Central Area, Thursday.

Lakeview Tourney

The Lakers went 3-1 to place third at the 8-team Lakeview Tournament last Saturday.  The three victories lifted the team’s overall record to 5-2.

Minnewaska went 2-1 in pool play before beating Morris Area-CA in two games in the third-place match.

Earlier, the Lakers fell to Westbrook-WG (1-1, lost tiebreaker), but also beat Lakeview (2-0) and ACGC (1-1, won tiebreaker).

Westbrook-WG won tiebreakers over Lakeview and Minnewaska Area to earn a place in the championship match where it beat NLS, 2-0.

In the other finals, ACGC swept Lac qui Parle in two games for fifth place and Lakeview beat Ortonville, 2-0, in the seventh-place match.

Lakeview tied with Westbrook-WG, 1-1, but also lost to ACGC and Minnewaska Area in two games to end up fourth in its pool.

Waska 3, Morris Area 0

The Lakers improved to 6-2 overall with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-18 win at Morris Area-CA last Tuesday night.

Dacia Fleury and Haillie Schulz were among the leaders for the Lakers as Fleury had 13 kills and nine digs, both teams highs with a 29 percent kill percentage, while Schulz added 29 set assists, eight digs, two ace-serves, two kills and one block for good measure.

The match was a nice break for the Lakers, who had played two tough five-game matches the previous week against Sauk Centre and Melrose Area while also playing four matches at the Lakeview Tourney, Saturday.

Overall, the Lakers had 15 errors and 35 kills for a team kill percentage of 19 percent.  Avery Lewison had six kills, Mya VanLuik and Berlynn Green both put down four kills, and Schulz, Emma Hellermann, Eliana Marthaler and Addy Kath each had two.

Waska also served at a 93 percent clip with Marthaler and Schulz both registering two ace-serves.

Marthaler and Green both added seven digs for the Lakers, while Emma Poegel and VanLuik both had six.  Kath led the team with two blocks and Lewison and VanLuik both had 1.5.

Minnewaska 3, BOLD 0

The Lakers played another great all-around match during a 25-17, 25-10, 25-17 sweep of BOLD, Thursday night at home.

The Lakers served at a 96 percent clip with nine ace-serves, had a team kill efficiency of 22 percent, and also had 6.5 ace-blocks and 40 digs on the way to the dominating win.

Dacia Fleury had another great all-around match with 12 kills, four ace-serves, six digs, 1.5 blocks and two set assists.  She had a kill percentage of 42 percent.

Mya VanLuik added eight kills and a kill percentage of 25 percent, while Haillie Schulz put up 23 set assists and also had three ace-serves and four digs.

It was another great team effort by the Lakers, who are playing outstanding volleyball for this early in the season.

Addy Kath added four kills and 1.5 blocks for the Lakers, while Emma Poegel had a team-high 11 digs, Avery Lewison, Berlynn Green and Emma Hellerman all had an ace-block, and Green was also second on the team with seven digs.
