Prairie Lakes Audubon Chapter is celebrating their 10th anniversary as a chapter of the National Audubon Society. At their Sept. 10 meeting, Tom Ries, the Field Trip leader for the Prairie Lakes Audubon Chapter (PLAC) will speak about his “Favorite Minnesota Birding Spots.” Tom has led PLAC’s birding field trips since the Chapter’s beginnings in 2014. Growing up in Iowa on the Mississippi River flyway, he developed an interest in birds at an early age and has worked to improve his knowledge of birds throughout his life.

One of the goals of the PLAC birding group is to discover new and productive locations for observing birds.  Many great spots have been uncovered and he will share some of his favorites.

Tom uses his skills and interest in photography to help document the field trip results and then share them with the group on our Facebook page. Over the years he has captured many great images of the birds of Minnesota.

Come join us to learn of a new location for you to go birding at and share the discoveries with other members. Refreshments will be served and a door prize, “A Birder’s Guide to Minnesota” – 5th Edition by Kim Eckert will be given out.

The meeting on Sept. 10 will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church, 605 Douglas St., Alexandria, at 7 p.m. There is no cost to attend this program, but local chapter membership renewals will be offered for the coming year at $20 per household to support PLAC’s activities. All are welcome.

Prairie Lakes Audubon Chapter is the local Chapter of National Audubon Society for Anyone interested in birds and nature. We have regular informal meetings and birding field trips.
