The Lakers had a long winning streak snapped during a five-game loss to West Central Area, Thursday night at home.

Minnewaska earned a three-game sweep of Montevideo at home last Tuesday, but the Knights made sure it wouldn’t be another undefeated week for the Lakers with a 17-25, 27-29, 25-18, 25-14, 15-8 victory to avenge a four-game win by Minnewaska over WCA exactly one week earlier.

Minnewaska had won its previous six best-of-five matches before the loss to the Knights.  Still, the Lakers are a very respectable 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the WCC to stand in a second place tie with WCA, one match back of Sauk Centre, which has one league loss.

And, speaking of the Mainstreeters, the Lakers are set to play at Sauk Centre, Tuesday (tomorrow) before hosting Melrose Area, Thursday.

Minnewaska 3, Monte 0

The Lakers ran their record to 10-2 with a 25-11, 25-10, 25-7 sweep of Montevideo last Tuesday night at home.

Dacia Fleury had 13 kills to lead the Lakers, who dominated the match from start to finish, while Mya VanLuik added six and Emma Hellermann had five kills with no errors on eight attempts for a kill percentage of 63 percent.

Overall, the Lakers had 30 kills and 12 errors for a kill percentage of 30 percent.

Minnewaska also had a great night serving as the team totaled 13 ace-serves and had only four errors, serving at a 94 percent clip.

Schulz had six of those ace-serves, while Fleury and Berlynn Green both had two.

Schulz also had 21 set assists, while Emma Poegel had a team-high nine digs, Green also had eight digs and two kills and Avery Lewison had the only ace-block on the night for the Lakers.

It was the sixth-straight conference win for the Lakers.

WCA 3, Minnewaska 2

The Lakers won the first two games before WCA rallied for the win in five games.  The Knights played better and better as the match progressed, while the Lakers’ goal was simply to win a third game and get the match over.

It was the third five-game match for the Lakers this season after Minnewaska fell to SC in five games and beat Melrose in five games earlier this season.

Dacia Fleury and Mya VanLuik combined for 31 kills as Fleury pounded down 19 kills and VanLuik added 12.  Those two combined for 31 kills with 20 errors, but the rest of the team wasn’t as efficient, combining for 12 kills with 12 errors.

Haillie Schulz had 35 set assists along with 19 digs, 1.5 blocks, one ace-serve and two kills, while Fleury also had a team-high 28 digs and VanLuik added eight digs and a block.

Berlynn Green had another great all-around match with two ace-serves, 17 digs and two kills, while Avery Lewison had five kills and two blocks, Emma Poegel had 17 digs, Brooklyn Noyes had 15 digs, Eliana Marthaler had 14 digs and a kill and Emma Hellermann added two kills and five digs.
