Waska volleyball earns 7th seed and will host Osakis, Wednesday night

The Minnewaska Area volleyball team closed out the conference schedule with an 11-3 record after sweeping Benson last Tuesday night.
The Lakers also competed at the Fergus Falls Tourney, going 2-2 to put their overall record at 18-8 going into the Section 6A Tourney.
Sauk Centre won this year’s WCC title with a 13-1 record, followed by West Central Area (12-2), Minnewaska (11-3), BOLD (8-6), Melrose (6-8), Morris Area (4-10), Montevideo (1-13) and Benson (1-13).
In the Section 6AA race, the Lakers earned the seventh seed of the 14 section teams. Minnewaska Area is set to host 10th-seeded Osakis (10-16) at 7 p.m., Wednesday. With a win, the Lakers would play at second-seeded Sauk Centre (22-4), Friday night. The semifinals and championship match are set for Oct. 29 and 31 at Sauk Rapids High School.
Waska 3, Benson 0
The Laker volleyball team dominated a match at Benson last Tuesday, winning in three quick games, 25-11, 25-15, 25-13.
Minnewaska Area totaled nine ace-serves in the match and also served at a 96 percent clip and ended the match with a 28 percent kill percentage.
The Lakers had nine different players with at least one kill led by Dacia Fleury, who continued her great season with 13 kills and a kill percentage of 38 percent.
Avery Lewison and Eliana Marthaler both added four kills without a miss, while Emma Hellermann had three kills, and Addy Kath, Berlynn Green, Haillie Schulz and Mya VanLuik all ended the match with two kills.
Schulz also led the Lakers with four ace-serves and 29 set assists, while Green had three ace-serves and Fleury had two.
Minnewaska also had a great defensive match with Green, Fleury and Emma Poegel leading the way with seven digs each. Lewison and Schulz led the Lakers with 1.5 ace-blocks, while Fleury had one.
The Lakers ended the WCC schedule with an impressive 11-3 overall record, losing only to WCA once and to league-champion Sauk Centre twice, including once in five games.
Fergus Falls Tourney
The Lakers went 2-2 at the Blocktoberfest Tourney at Fergus Falls, Thursday, beating Detroit Lakes (2-1) and Pelican Rapids (2-0) while also losing to Breckenridge (2-1) and Fergus Falls (2-1).
After splitting its first two matches with Breckenridge and Detroit Lakes, the Lakers fell to Fergus Falls in the next round (2-1) before sweeping Pelican Rapids.
In the championship bracket (winners of four pools), Hawley won the overall title with a 2-1 win over West Central Area followed by a 2-1 victory over Sauk Centre in the championship.
WCA edged Detroit Lakes in three games for third. There were at least 14 teams competing at the Fergus Falls Tourney.
