Minnewaska Area Schools hosted the 19th annual Veterans Appreciation Program, Monday morning, Nov. 11 in the high school gymnasium.  All area veterans were invited to the program, which highlighted the sacrifices they each made in serving our country.  Included in the program was a Veterans Entrance and Posting of the Colors (pictures above and at left), the National Anthem performed by the MAHS Concert Choir (directed by Jeff Iverson), the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Minnewaska Area Little Lakers Preschool students, a welcome by Kendra Wilmes from the National Honor Society (pictured below at podium), a medley of Armed Forces songs performed by the 7-12 Choir, a performance of Within These Hallowed Halls by the MAHS Concert Band (directed by Heidi Polzin and narrated by Daniel Cochran), a speech by guest speaker Tyler Smith (Navy, 1999-2021), the song “Thank You Soldiers” performed by Minnewaska Elementary students in grades K-4, remarks from Supt. Chip Rankin, Taps and Remembrance, and the Retiring of the Colors.  Armistice Day became a national day of remembrance, Nov 11, 1918, but the name was changed to Veterans Day by an Act of Congress on May 24, 1954.
