ORDINANCE #2024-10-21 

AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE COMPENSATION OF COUNCIL MEMBERS AND MEMBERS OF BOARDS, COMMITTEES, OR COMMISSIONS IN THE CITY OF LONG BEACH, MINNESOTA 

RECITALS 

A. This Ordinance replaces Ordinance #52 and repeals any prior motion or ordinance regarding the compensation of the council members and members of boards, committees, or commissions in the City of Long Beach, Minnesota. 

B. Pursuant to Minn. Stat. § 415.11, the City Council of the City of Long Beach, Minnesota, hereby ordains the following: 

Section 1: Salaries of the City Council 

1. Mayor Compensation The salary of the Mayor shall be $500 per 

    month. 

2. Clerk/Treasurer Compensation The salary of the elected 

    Clerk/Treasurer shall be $500 per month. 

3. Council Member Compensation The salary of each remaining 

    member of the City Council shall be $300 per month. 

4. Special Meeting Compensation In addition to their salary, the Mayor, 

    Clerk/Treasurer, and/or Council Members shall receive $100 per 

    special meeting attended. 

5. Council Member Roles In addition to salary and special meeting 

    compensation, a monthly fee of $50 for a primary role and $25 for a 

     secondary role shall be paid to the Mayor, Clerk/Treasurer, or Council 

    Members assigned such a role. Roles shall be assigned by majority 

    vote during a City Council meeting and may be adjusted monthly as 

    needed. The role fee is cumulative if multiple roles are assigned to 

    the same member. 

a. Payment Schedule 

Compensation for the Mayor, Clerk/Treasurer, and Council Members shall be paid quarterly, including monthly salary and any additional payments for special meetings or assigned roles. 

b. Definition of Special Meeting 

For the purposes of this ordinance, a “special meeting” is defined as any meeting, other than a regularly scheduled City Council meeting, conducted in accordance with Minnesota Open Meeting Law, where the Mayor, Clerk/Treasurer, or Council Members are required, requested, or formally invited to attend in their official capacity as elected representatives.

Section 2: Compensation for Boards, Committees, and Commissions 

1. Member Compensation 

The compensation for a member of any board, committee, or commission established by the City Council shall be $50 per meeting. 

2. Limitations on Compensation 

No compensation shall be paid for activities that have not been first approved by the City Council. 

Section 3: Repeal of Conflicting Ordinances 

Any prior ordinance, resolution, or motion regarding compensation for the Mayor, Clerk/Treasurer, Council Members, or members of boards, committees, or commissions is hereby repealed and replaced by this Ordinance. 

Section 4: Effective Date 

This Ordinance shall take effect on January 1, 2025, upon its passage and publication as provided by law.
