Pope County voters showed up last week and joined much of the country in supporting Republican candidate Donald Trump for the next president of the United States.

The Trump-Vance ticket received 4,677 votes in Pope County, while the Harris-Walz (D) ticket received 2,398 votes. 

Statewide, Harris-Walz won Minnesota with 50.89 percent of the vote compared to 46.65 percent of the vote for Trump-Vance.

Local voters also supported Republican Royce White (R) for U.S. Senator over incumbent Sen. Amy Klobuchar, but Klobuchar won easily in Minnesota with 56.20 percent of the state vote.

Republican Michelle Fischbach was favored by Pope County voters getting 4,848 votes to challenger A.J. Peters’ 2,211.  In Congressional District 7, Fischbach garnered 70.44 percent of the vote to be re-elected easily.

On the local level, Minnewaska School District voters elected four school board members from a field of six candidates..   With 30 of 30 precincts reporting, the four elected were Justin Zavadil  Angela Reichmann, Chad Barsness,  and Gordon E. Moeller.  

Incumbent Starbuck Mayor Gary Swenson was reelected from a field of four candidates, receiving 353 votes.  In the Starbuck City Council race, Starbuck voters elected Kris Goracke, who received the most votes of the five candidates vying for two seats.  Goracke received 426 votes.  Incumbent Mary Baukol was also elected with 340 votes.

Rep. Paul Anderson (R) was easily reelected with 74.12% of the vote in District 12A of the Minnesota Legislature.  His challenger Becky K. Parker received 25.81 percent of the vote. In Pope County, Anderson received 4,541 votes, compared to 1,533 for his challenger.
