The Minnewaska Area girls tennis team held its season-ending banquet recently.  The Lakers went 19-4 overall this year and 8-0 in the WCC.  Two highlights of the season were placing second in the Section 6A Team Tournament and Alia Randt and Megan Thorfinnson winning the section doubles’ title to earn a berth at state where they went 2-2 to place fourth overall.

Earning All-Conference for the Lakers this year were Alia Randt, Olivia Danielson, Avarie Uhde, Rachel Rankin, Megan Thorfinnson and Katy Vold, while Addy Heid was named to the honorable mention team.

During the season-ending banquet, winning Senior Leadership Awards were Megan Thorfinnson, Avarie Uhde, McKenna Uhde, Katy Vold and Katie Sorenson.

Named as the Most Improved Player was McKenna Uhde, while earning the Sportsmanship Award was Olivia Danielson, who also won the award for the Most Wins in a season with 31.

In addition, Avarie Uhde won the Team Spirit Award and Alia Randt and Rachel Rankin were both named the winners of the “Hustle, Hit, Never Quit” Award.

The Minnewaska Area girls tennis team also earned a Gold Team Academic Award this year with a team g.p.a. of 3.99 (needed to have a g.p.a. of 3.75 or higher).

And, earning All-State Academic Awards from the MSHSL (senior with a g.p.a. of at least 3.8) were Megan Thorfinnson, Avarie Uhde, McKenna Uhde, Katy Vold and Katie Sorenson.

Earning WCC Academic Awards for a g.p.a. of 3.75 or higher were Megan Thorfinnson, Alia Randt, Olivia Danielson, Avarie Uhde, Katy Vold, Katie Sorenson, McKenna Uhde, Rachel Rankin, Kaylen Blair, Norah VanZee, Adysen Hess, Kennedy Blair and Maggie Hjelm.

•  Among the JV awardwinners were:  Isabelle Wallin won the Most Improved Player Award, Ariana Quelle won the Sportsmanship Award, Allie Mrnak earned the Team Spirit honor and Molly Cassidy won the “Hustle, Hit, Never Quit” Award.

For the Junior High team, Avery Wildman won the Most Improved Player Award, Aly Elenberger earned the Team Spirit honor, Roran Vold and Henley Ogdahl shared the Rookie of the Year Award, and Keeley Hanson won the Sportsmanship Award.
