The Minnewaska Area dance teams competed at the Melrose Area Dance Invitational last Saturday, placing third in both varsity competitions.

The Lakers were also set to compete at BBE, Thursday, Dec. 19, but that meet was postponed because of snow and it has not been determined if it will be made up or not.

Holdingford won both varsity competitions at the Melrose Invitational, while NLS was second.  Those two teams are among the top teams in Section 2A, which also includes perennial state contender St. Cloud Cathedral.

In JV action at Melrose, the JV Jazz team placed third (Holdingford was first), the B-squad Jazz team was first and the JV High-Kick team did not place in the top three (BBE was first).

•  In meets earlier this season, the Laker varsity dance teams both placed first at the opening Minnewaska Area Invitational.  The Lakers also competed in a dual with NLS, Dec. 10, before placing eighth and ninth at the 11-team BOLD Invitational, Dec. 14.

After a break for the holidays, the Lakers will resume the schedule, Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Alexandria Invitational.

The dance teams are coached by Tana Ziesmer with assistance from Morgan Kaufman and Mikiya Smith.

The dance teams are competing in Section 2A again this season after competing in Section 4A two seasons ago.  Section 2A includes ACGC, BBE-Paynesville, Holdingford, Litchfield, Melrose Area, NLS, Osakis, Pierz, St. Cloud Cathedral and Sauk Centre,  among other schools
