Western Prairie Human Services recently announced two new initiatives from their Care Connections Senior Services aimed at supporting families navigating dementia care: Dementia Essentials and Memory Makers. These programs offer education, respite, and emotional support for caregivers and persons living with dementia (PLWD).
Dementia Essentials is an innovative educational program designed to help families understand the impact of dementia on daily life. By offering practical guidance, emotional tools, and clear strategies, Dementia Essentials empowers family caregivers to thoughtfully plan and confidently adapt to the challenges of dementia care. This initiative strengthens families’ ability to manage the physical, emotional, and mental demands of caregiving while enhancing their understanding of how dementia progresses.
Alongside education, Memory Makers provides a group respite program tailored to support both caregivers and persons living with dementia. Memory Makers offers a nurturing and stimulating environment where individuals with dementia and other chronic illnesses can enjoy social interactions, structured activities, and emotional engagement. This program not only enhances the quality of life for participants but also gives their caregivers a much-needed break to recharge, ensuring they can continue to provide compassionate care without experiencing burnout.
In addition, Support Groups provide a critical space for family caregivers to connect, share experiences, and receive emotional support. These groups offer a sense of community, allowing caregivers to talk openly about the challenges they face and find solidarity with others on a similar journey. With professional facilitation and peer support, these groups provide a safe environment where caregivers can gain practical insights and emotional encouragement.
Together, Dementia Essentials, Memory Makers, and Support Groups form a comprehensive approach to dementia care, ensuring both caregivers and persons with dementia receive the support and resources they need for a more balanced and fulfilling caregiving experience.
Attend Dementia Essentials on Monday March 31, at Ridgewood Villa, Senior Living Apartments, 7 4th Ave SE, Glenwood from 1-4pm.
