Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year as a nod to the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement. The recognition began in 1970 to raise awareness and demonstrate support for environmental protection.
The Glenwood GFWC Potpourri will host an Earth Day event on April 22 at 1 p.m. in the upper seasonal campground at Barsness Park. A speaker will talk about the ongoing work of the Barsness Buckthorn Brigade to eradicate buckthorn from the 250-acre city park using volunteer labor and goats rented from a local farmer.
Laura Adrian, a Minnesota writer, wilderness guide and herbalist, will discuss Conscious Connection to Nature for Healing & Transformation. Adrian operates an organization called Whole Life Elevation dedicated to cultivating resilience, joy and belonging through nature. She offers retreats, expeditions and classes throughout the Midwest.
The long winter has created the perfect opportunity for area community members to come and enjoy the emerging life of the park.
The upper campground can be accessed to the right of the park bathhouse. Bring your own chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held at Central Square.
