WCC wins pile up for boys, girls golf teams

The boys’ golf team put together a winning effort in a West Central Conference meet on Tuesday at Greystone Golf Club in Sauk Centre.
The Lakers finished 11 shots ahead of second-place Benson. Zach Gugisberg paced the Lakers with a 42, followed by a pair of 44s from Riley Larson and Logan Kostelecky.

The boys’ golf team won their second meet of the day on Tuesday, taking the Melrose meet by eight shots over Benson.
Logan Kostelecky and Zach Gugisberg shot 38’s to lead the Lakers.

The Minnewaska boys were back in Sauk Centre on Wednesday for a 12-team invitational. The Lakers finished in a tie for third place with BBE, just three strokes off of second place Detroit Lakes and 11 behind the top team from Bemidji.
Riley Larson’s 78 was good for third place overall, while Zach Gugisberg had a 79, which was tied for fourth.
On Tuesday the Lakers have WCC meets in Sauk Centre and then Melrose. On Friday Minnewaska will be at New London-Spicer for an invitational. On Friday night the team makes the long trek to Fairmont for an invitational on Saturday morning.

The Minnewaska girls’ golf team was at the Alexandria Golf Club on Wednesday for a 13-team invitational.
The host team took first place, with the Bluejackets coming in eighth place. Minnewaska/BBE was paced by Berkley Steffen’s 88, which placed her ninth overall.
The Lakers will be at Melrose and Sauk Centre on Tuesday for WCC meets. On Friday the Minnewaska Golf Club will be the setting for a 10-team invitational with teams from Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Eden Valley-Watkins, Edina, Fergus Falls, Moorhead, Pequot Lakes, Rogers and St. Michael-Albertville. Saturday finds the Lakers at Geneva Golf Club in Alexandria for an invitational tournament.
