Glenwood City Commission approved a conditional-use permit to allow a church worship facility in a location that is zoned for light industrial.
Calvary Lutheran Church plans to purchase the building currently occupied by Kingdom Kids Day Care Center just east of Highway 55 in Glenwood. The purchase was dependent on the city granting the conditional-use permit, the commissioners were told. The Klick Foundation currently owns that property, it was stated at the meeting.
The city’s planning and zoning commission recommended that the permit be approved.
In another action, the city approved a request from Calvary Lutheran church to rezone property owned by the church from Business to Multiple Residential. The rezoning would allow a townhome development on an undeveloped 5.7 acre lot located north of Park Road and southwest of Highway 55 near the Dove International building. The action was taken after a public hearing on the matter and there were no comments at the hearing except from Fred Sandal of Hometown Planning who brought the commission the planning commission’s recommendation.
The city’s planning and zoning commission recommended that the commission approve the rezoning.
“I think that’s a good use for that property,” said Commissioner Neil Haynes.
