The Glenwood City Commission conducted its first meeting of the new year with Mayor Sherri Kazda and Commissioner Brent Cochran taking their oath of office from City Attorney Troy Nelson.  Kazda was elected to her second term as mayor and Cochran is beginning his first term on the commission.  Both ran unopposed.

The commission made city appointments with Commissioner Todd Gylsen named vice mayor, Finance Commissioner and Parks, Buildings, Library Commissioner; Mavis Patten was appointed Airport commissioner; Commissioner Neil Haynes was appointed Sanitary Services and Water Commissioner; and Brent Cochran was appointed Public Works Commissioner.  Kazda was also appointed Public Safety Commissioner.

Troy Nelson was named City Attorney.

The commission will meet in regular session on the second Tuesday and the fourth Wednesday of each month.  The commission, however, changed the February meeting from Feb. 14 (Valentines Day) to Tuesday, Feb. 7.  All regular meetings begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

The city is currently looking to fill a few vacancies on a number of city boards, including the planning commission, the park board, the library board, the housing authority and the Glenwood Development Foundation.  City residents who are interested in serving on one of the those city boards, should contact city hall at 320-634-5433 or email to: cog@ci.glenwood.mn.us.  The commission did re-appoint Jim Ingersoll, Barb Schutt and Colin Cihlar to the planning commission; Tom Buysse to the park board; Doug Jackson to the airport board; and Becky Nelson and Sue Phillipsen to the city’s library board.

In other business, the city commission:

•Adopted an ordinance relating to the city’s municipal water service that prohibits private wells within the city.  The ordinance was published before the action and the commission voted 4-0 to adopt it.

• Approved a transportation agreement with Rainbow Rider.
