Braves rally to beat Lakers on last-second shot

Benson made a three-pointer just before the buzzer to give the Braves a 59-56 victory over Minnewaska Area during a home game for the Lakers last Friday night.
It was the latest tough loss for Minnewaska, which was playing without one of its top scorers and rebounders in Hunter Kloos, who is out with an injury suffered one game earlier against Barnesville.
The Lakers were also set to host BOLD, Thursday, Jan. 26 and play at Litchfield, Saturday, Jan. 28, but results of those two games will be highlighted next week.
Coming up this week is a game at Montevideo, Tuesday, Jan. 31, followed by a home game with Sauk Centre, Friday, Feb. 3.
Benson 59, Lakers 56
The Lakers led Benson 28-24 at halftime before the Braves rallied for a 59-56 victory last Friday night at Minnewaska Area. Benson outscored the Lakers 35-28 in the second half, getting a three-pointer just before the final buzzer to pull out the three-point win.
The Lakers struggled from the field, shooting just 35 percent (22-for-62), including just 9-of-39 from three-point range.
While Minnewaska Area had 27 points on three-pointers and went 3-of-5 from the line, the Braves made 24 points on eight three-pointers and went 13-of-19 from the line.
Tenzin Dahl, who had 10 points, two assists and seven rebounds for the Lakers, faced foul trouble all game before fouling out in the second half.
PJ Johnson and Alex Panitzke led the Lakers with 12 points each. Johnson also had three assists and six boards, while Panitzke added five assists, three rebounds, two steals and three blocked shots.
However, while Dahl, Johnson and Panitzke combined to go 14-of-30 from the field, the rest of the Lakers went a combined 8-of-32 (25 percent).
Dylan Alexander provided nine points, six assists and seven boards for the Lakers, who have gone 0-8 since picking up their first win just before the start of the New Year, while Marc Gruber had five points, two rebounds and two steals.
Also scoring for Minnewaska Area were Levi Johnson and Ryland Martin with three points each, and Luke Danielson with two points.
Blake Brehmer had 19 points to lead Benson, while Landon Skarsten added 12 points and Juan Espinoza had 11.
