From July 4, 1913
One of the most elaborate and complete weddings took place at Langhei Wednesday at Ole Gulsvigs home, when their daughter, Clara Josephine, was solemnized in marriage to Edwin O. Ranum. The couple were recipients of many costly and valuable presents and some money. We wish Mr. and Mrs. Ranum a long and happy domestic felicity, and the wedding was one of the most eventful in the social circles of our county.
Gilman Aaberg and Clara Josephine Berg were married Tuesday. The couple and their attendants whirled to Benson in autos and the ceremony took place at Rev. Pederson’s parsonage at 10 o’clock.

Mrs. Julia Solverud, county superintendent of schools, was married on Wednesday at Glenwood to Mr. Knutson of Swift County.
Funeral services for Mrs. Peder Engebretson were held Monday at her home, Rev. G.O. Forde officiating, assisted by Rev. M.C. Johnshoy. Internment was in the Indherred cemetery. She is survived by her husband and the following children: E.A. Engebretson of Fargo; I.M . Engebretson and H.F. Engebretson of Lowry; Mrs. A.G. Gillespie of Grass Range, Mont.; Mrs. W.R. Case, Rio Linda, Calif.; Mrs. H.F. Mal, Sanborn, N.Dak.; Mrs. E.H. Yarick, Aurora, Minn.; Alfred Engebretson at home.
Elsie Wollan, Agnes Linnevold and Miss Robard of Glenwood hiked around the lake last Wednesday. They stopped for breakfast at the Aage Peterson’s while passing through here.
Funeral services for little Doris Sylvester, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Sylvester, were held at Immanuel on June 21. She is survived by her parents and a baby brother, two months old.
There will be a sale of fancy work and useful articles at the Immanuel church parlors on Friday afternoon. Lunch will be served: Rommegrod, lefse, scalloped potatoes, chicken veal loaf, sandwiches, pickles, pies, rosettes, fattigmand, cake and coffee. Adults 25¢ and children 10¢.

A large number of relatives and family of Mr. and Mrs. John Skaaden gathered at the Skaaden home last Sunday to help them celebrate their Silver Wedding Anniversary. The Skaadens have four daughters, Alida, Myrtle, Evelyn and Olivia.
Local first class postage rates have been reduced from 3¢ an ounce to 2¢ an ounce as the result of an order from Postmaster General Jim Farley.
A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ronnie on Friday, June 23.
The following young people were presented in a piano recital by Miss Astrid Flack on Wednesday evening: Harriet Thorstad, Nels Forde, Allen Paul Norby, Evelyn Lorvig, Julia Ranum, Mary Jane Lynch, Mildred Olson, Betty Mae Forde, Pearl Erickson, Margaret Sanvik, Sylvia Kamrud, Blanche Lingen, Jeannette Kjera, Carol Anderson, Paul Johnshoy, Mildred Ronnie, Pearl Norby, Pearl Eidberg, Jeneva Skoglund and Mae Heegard.

Mr. and Mrs. Orville Olson had their infant daughter, Mary Lynn, baptized at the Fron Church Sunday. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Olson and Violet Jorgenson and Walter Hegland.
Just 73 years ago today, July 1, 1870 there arrived a baby boy at the Bingham Home near Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. So today Ed Bingham is celebrating his 73rd birthday. Happy returns of the day, Ed!
Confirmation was administered to a class of 100 people at the Sacred Heart Church of Glenwood Sunday afternoon. Paul and Patricia Sanvik and Marjorie Lynch were members of the class.
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Pederson had their infant son , John Hulberg, baptized Monday evening at their home. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. C.G. Pederson.
Marie Geneva, five-week old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lorvig, died Tuesday morning at the Minnewaska Hospital. Death was caused by spina bifida.

Kenneth Russell, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Aaberg was baptized at the Fron Lutheran Church Sunday. Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schmidt and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Braaten.

Funeral services for Theodore Wold, 77, were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church July 1. He is survived by his wife, Clara and five children: Arthur, Herman, Torbin and Gerhard, all residing at home and Myrtle (Mrs. Vern Woodard) of Moses Lake, Washington.
Mrs. Ednard Barsness entertained a few girls Friday afternoon in honor of Geraldine’s 12th birthday.
A 9 lb. 1 oz. baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. R.D. Nicholas (Gladys Rud) at the Belgrade Hospital June 30.
Miss Ruth Olson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward S. Olson of Starbuck and David M. Shaw of Riverside, Calif. were married June 27 at Fron Lutheran Church. The couple will make their home in San Bernardino, Calif.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Aaberg of Minneapolis are happy to announce the birth of a baby boy born July 7th. This is their fourth child and second son.
Relatives and friends helped Robert Amundson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Amundson, celebrate his 1st birthday Friday.

James Walline, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Walline, member of the 1963 graduating class from S.H.S. was recently awarded a merit scholarship by Concordia College, Moorhead.
The descendants of the late Ole Hagestuen family, who are the Nordstrom, Opdahl, Hagestruen and Brandvold families, enjoyed a reunion and picnic dinner Sunday at the Starbuck Lakeshore Park. Eighty people attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Orlin Jellum of Sauk Rapids are the parents of a baby girl born June 17. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Jellum are the paternal grandparents.
A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. David Kurud of Minneapolis on June 13. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ellen Kurud of Morris and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Boldenow of rural Starbuck.
Paul H. Engebretson, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Engebretson of Lowry was one of the 128 students who received the Doctor of Medicine degree at the 1963 spring graduation exercises at the University of Minnesota last Saturday evening.

Karen Dietzler, an honor student of the recent graduating class of the Starbuck High School, has been given the annual award of the Reader’s Digest Association for students who by their successful school work give promise of attaining leadership in the community, it has been announced by Principal Roger Shelstad.
Starbuck Mayor Gene Watnaas announced that the Village of Starbuck is in the process of purchasing a new garbage truck and packer.
Shan Brenden, daughter of the Rube Brendens, was chosen Queen of the Midsommernattsfest held in Starbuck on Thursday. Others competing were Jennifer Thiesse, Luan Johnsrud, Denise Hermanson, DeAnn Hofstad, and Sheila Pederson. Joyce Femrite, Glenwood, reigning princess from last year, crowned the new princess.

Agnes Brenden of Starbuck and Henry Foelschow of Glenwood were Chosen as Pope County’s Outstanding Senior Woman and Man for 1983.
Life-long Starbuck resident Magna Peterson celebrated her 90th birthday on May 9. She is the oldest Starbuck resident who has lived in the same house all her life.
Audrey Lynn Anderson, of Clinton, and Kelly Erickson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Erickson, were united in marriage May 14th. The couple will make their home in Starbuck.
Funeral services for Herman S. Anderson, 81, were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church June 27. He is survived by his wife, Adeline of Starbuck, three sons, Sidney of Starbuck, Howard of Hoffman and Lyle of Cyrus and a step-daughter, Beverly Stensby of Chicago, Illinois.
The Starbuck Band Wagon will appear in the Centennial parade Sunday after an absence of 30 years. The wagon was originated in 1948 when Edward Olson, director of the Starbuck Concert Band and band member, Arthur Johnson, went to Peru, Indiana and bought the old truck wheels and chassis of an old band wagon. All the band carving was replaced with 2” scroll work and then gold-leafed.

First National Bank of Starbuck will celebrate its 95th birthday July 2.
Funeral services for Eveline Gregerson, 81, of Morris, were held at Kongsvinger Lutheran Church in Donnelly June 29. Among her survivors is a brother, Gerhard Holen of Minneapolis.
Michael Murken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Murken of Starbuck, who is enrolled in the auto repair course at Alexandria Technical College, has been named to the Spring Quarter President’s List.
Minneapolis Star & Tribune columnist Jim Klobuchar and 300 bikers enjoyed an overnight stay at the Starbuck Lakeshore Park during the “Jaunt with Jim” week-long bike trip through western and Central Minnesota.

In a time of budget shortfalls and number crunching for all government bodies in Minnesota, the Pope County Board of Commissioners has asked its department heads to look at making significant cuts in their budgets.
The Minnewaska Area School Board signed paperwork on June 17 to borrow more than $3 million. The board members reasoned that they need to have money on hand to pay ongoing expenses.
The depot will hold several events during an open house on Heritage Days beginning at 9 a.m.
Heritage days events begin on July 4 and continue through July 6.

The Starbuck Fire Department was selected as the 2013 Heritage Days Grand Marshals at the Annual Starbuck Chamber meeting on February 2.
The Glacial Hills Elementary School Board approved accepting a bid from Michael Schuett of $8,500 to create a new first grade ($4,000) classroom and to remodel the current fourth grade classroom ($4,500).
The 31st Annual Heritage Days celebration in Starbuck starts Wednesday, July 3 and runs through Sunday, July 7. The Great OZ movie will kick off activities on Wednesday in the Starbuck City Park at 9:30 p.m. Heritage Days activities will wrap up Sunday with a community church service at 10 a.m. with Shalom Lutheran Church serving a community dinner in the city park at 11 a.m.
