Sasha Schmidt, Glenwood’s newest full-time police officer was honored by Police Chief Dale Danter and the Glenwood City Commission with a “Life Saving” award.   On Sept. 13, as officer Schmidt was ending her field training, there was a medical call and the victim was in full cardiac arrest.  Schmidt and fellow officer Steve Nagel didn’t waste a second and immediately began CPR and did it so well,” according to Danter.  In viewing the body cam, Danter said it looked like they’d done it a hundred times.  In the end, the person fully recovered and is at home today because of the officers’ actions.  “Believe me, that’s not the typical outcome but we were very lucky to have these two there doing what they did to save a life,” Danter said.  Mayor Sherri Kazda (right) presented the plaque to Schmidt at last week’s city commission meeting. Nagel was unable to attend, but will be honored at a future meeting, it was stated.
