Waska golf teams set to open up season next week

The Minnewaska Area boys golf team is set to open up the season Thursday, April 18 at the Becker Invitational. The new coach of the Lakers’ boys golf team is Dion Harste.
The first two WCC meets are scheduled for Friday, April 19. The Minnewaska Area boys and girls golf teams will join the other WCC schools at Montevideo and BOLD.
The boys and girls teams are also set to compete at the Marshall Invitational, Saturday, April 20.
Back to lead the girls golf team is Tony Janu, while the golf assistants include Sarah Iverson and Brett Thorfinnson.
Last year’s highlights for golf included a pair of WCC team titles and three individuals making it to state.
Riley Larson competed at his second-straight state tourney last spring, while Arivia DeBoer and Ava Kollman qualified to state from the girls team.
Larson placed 21st overall at state last year with a 154 total on rounds of 76 and 78.
DeBoer shot a 167 at state last spring (84 and 83) to place 25th, while Kollman had a 187 total (98 and 89) to earn 57th at state.
