Starbuck Jr. Legion loses final two games to close out season at 14-9 overall

The Starbuck Jr. Legion was eliminated from the Jr. Legion Division II North Central Sub-State Tournament last weekend at Morris. The Stars opened up the tourney with two-straight wins over Benson (8-5) and Morris (5-2), but in the upper-bracket finals, Starbuck fell to Holdingford (12-1) and in the first game of the consolation bracket, the Stars were defeated by Morris (13-5).
Starbuck, coached by Chris Lence and Andy Goracke, ended the season with a 14-9 overall record.

Holdingford 12, Starbuck 1
Holdingford scored five runs in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game early during a 12-1 win over Starbuck in the upper-bracket finals of the Jr. Division II North Central Sub-State Tourney last Saturday morning.
The Stars scored their only run in the fourth inning to close a 2-0 game to 2-1, but Holdingford ramped things up from there, scoring 10 runs over its final two at-bats to win by a rout and move into the championship game.
Marc Gruber, Tyson Metz and Callum Disrud-Bailey had the only hits for Starbuck, while Riley Dell scored the only run and Luke Danielson, Connor Erickson, Miles Wildman and Oliver VanderHagen also reached base with walks.
One of Holdingford’s players went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs and seven RBI.
Morris 13, Starbuck 5
The season came to end later in the day last Saturday with a 13-5 loss to Morris.
The Stars, who ended the season with a 14-9 record after going 10-7 last season, trailed 4-0 through three innings before scoring three in the fourth to pull within 4-3.
Morris came right back with three runs of its own and then, after Starbuck scored another run in the top-half of the fifth, Morris tacked on five more runs in the bottom-half of the inning to take command of the game.
Josh Huebner went 2-for-5 for Morris with a run and five RBI, while Tyson Buss was 3-for-4 with two runs and two runs.
Starbuck had 10 hits of its own with Tyson Metz going 3-for-4 with a run and two RBI to lead the way. Luke Danielson was 2-for-4 with two runs, while Connor Erickson also had a big game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Erickson, the first of three Starbuck pitchers, was credited with the loss. He pitched the first 1 2/3 innings, leaving with the score 3-0. Riley Dell and Miles Wildman came in to pitch the final 4 1/3 innings in relief.
Also coming through with hits for the Stars were Riley Dell, AJ Svec and Wildman.
