Long Beach City Council

By Mayor Mike Pfeiffer

Hello again, Long Beach, Minn., and neighboring communities! As we continue to foster our sense of community and progress, we are excited to share a major development that promises to enhance our city’s landscape and services. The City of Long Beach is thrilled to announce the commencement of a transformative project that will see the current City Hall evolve into a vibrant Community Hub.

In an endeavor to maintain our city’s growth and resilience, the City Council has selected Starbuck Construction as the General Contractor to spearhead the creation of this new facility. This $450,000 initiative will not only upgrade our municipal infrastructure but also bolster local employment by partnering with an array of local businesses. Among those contributing their expertise are Braaten Masonry, Denny’s Electric, Berg Taping, BoilerHQ, Hilltop Lumber, Ferguson Bros., and Radach Land Surveying.

This project is a testament to our community’s dedication and forward-thinking. The new Community Hub will house enhanced office and meeting spaces, a resiliency center to bolster our city’s emergency preparedness and a modernized wastewater utility shop. Rooftop solar power generation and EV Charging stations are also planned for the Hub. This initiative is designed to streamline services and provide a central focus for community engagement.

Funding for this visionary project has been years in the works. The city has judiciously accumulated reserves to cover 50% of the project costs upfront. Additionally, Eagle Bank has played a pivotal role in securing capital improvement bond financing for the remaining balance, which will be repaid over the next decade to mitigate the impact on our tax levy.

Construction is slated to begin this September, and we anticipate a grand unveiling next spring. We understand the importance of minimizing disruption. Thus, during the construction phase, utility payments can be conveniently dropped at Eagle Bank or mailed to us at PO BOX 124, Glenwood, MN, 56334.

To provide more details and answer any queries from our community, a special open house and informational meeting will take place on August 26, from 6-7p.m., at the existing Long Beach City Hall. This will be a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the project, view the plans and ask questions about what this development means for you and our community.

We invite everyone to join us as we lay down the foundation for a facility that will serve not just our current population but future generations as well. Your input and support have been crucial in reaching this milestone, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
