Champions find success on Minnewaska

Kyle Schutta was the first place finisher in the Classic Bass Champions Tour tournament held on Lake Minnewaska on Tuesday.  Schutta was also named the tour’s Angler of the Year.  In Tuesday’s tournament, Schutta caught 94 bass weighing 134 pounds, 1 oz.  He caught the fish in eight hours with participants fishing half the lake in the morning and the other half in the afternoon.  Schutta set a rapid pace leading the tournament handily in the morning, briefly gave up the lead in the early afternoon and then regained first place finishing well ahead of the second-place finisher.  Taking second was Matt Holweg who caught 78 bass weighing 123 pounds, 13 oz..  Hunter Wendt took third with 60 bass weighing 115 pounds, 15 oz. 

The 32 anglers in the tournament caught 1,408 Largemouth Bass weighing 1,730 pounds and 1 oz.; and 77 Smallmouth Bass  weighing 149 pounds 6 oz. in the one day tournament.  At left, Kyle Schutta hoists the Champion trophy and above stands in the new Skeeter boat with a 250 Yamaha motor that was given to the champion.  As angler of the year, he also won about $12,000 in electronics and the top cash prize for the tournament.
