The Minnewaska Area Schools Board of Education has approved adjustments to the 2024-2025 school calendar to accommodate staff development requirements mandated by the READ Act.
To ensure compliance with the new state legislation and support our educators with essential training, Minnewaska Area Schools will designate two days, Monday, December 9, 2024, and Wednesday, January 31, 2025, as staff development days.
Impact on Students:
On these two designated days:
Grades 4-12: Students will participate in distance learning.
Preschool to 3rd Grade: No school will be in session.
The purpose of these adjustments is to provide educators with valuable professional development opportunities focused on evidence-based reading instruction, in alignment with the goals set forth by the READ Act to ensure every Minnesota child reads at or above grade level, beginning in kindergarten.
Minnewaska Area Schools is committed to supporting its educators and staff by offering this dedicated time for professional growth, enhancing the quality of education delivered to all students.
Childcare Options:
To assist families impacted by these calendar changes, the district is exploring childcare options for the additional no-school days. Further details will be provided as they become available, it was stated.
