Howard Lecander, 90, died on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, at Red Cedar Canyon in Hudson, Wis. He was born the son of Roy and Myrtle Lecander on Nov. 6, 1934, in Stockholm, Wis. Howard grew up in Deer Park on the farm and graduated from New Richmond High School. After high school, Howard joined the United States Air Force. Howard was sent to Yale University to learn Chinese prior to serving his country in Korea. After his time in the military, Howard did his pre-chiropractic at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. He later received his Doctor of Chiropractic at Northwestern College. He married Jan Monteith on June 20, 1959. They moved to Glenwood to raise their family and start his chiropractic practice.

Howard loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and his cabin up north. He collected firearms and duck decoys, earned his private pilot’s license and enjoyed racing snowmobiles. He was involved in politics, the community and many organizations such as Rotary, Shriners, American Legion, VFW and Waterama. He did many pancake breakfasts and made a perfect pancake! He remained actively involved with many chiropractic professional organizations, such as American Chiropractic and Minnesota Chiropractic Associations. Howard was a kind, caring, people person who spent his life serving others. He touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was an amazing father to his children and beloved papa to his granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Myrtle; wife, Jan; and sisters, Carol Mullen, Joann Hennessy, Ruthie DuBois and Bonnie Lundell.

Howard is survived by his children, Jeff (Sheila) and Kay (Chuck) Kauzlarich; grandchildren, Ashely (Kurt) Traver, Cassie (Jonathon Beutler) Kauzlarich, Nikki Scheiller (Ryan Claussen), Chelsea and Kaelyn; great-grandsons, Benek Traver and Rylee Claussen; brother, Peter (Donna); sisters, Lois (Wayne) Moe and Elaine Heittman; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of Howard. The activities and music programs brought much joy to Howard during his stay in Memory Care and we wish to do a donation in his name so other residents may continue to enjoy this gift.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services (728 S Knowles Ave., New Richmond WI 54017) with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Arrangements are with Bakken-Young Funeral & Cremation Services.
